What is this project about?
This is the question I get all the time when people see our instagram page. This project is a simple yet extremely important passion project. The main goal-preventing teen suicide. How do we get there? Through a vision of empathy and compassion by accomplishing a lot of little goals that add up to the main goal.
What are some of our small goals? Here’s my thoughts and what I’ve learned:
In a world full of media, everyone is trying harder than ever to project a happy yet fake life. That life leaves no room for what are perceived as negative feelings. Difficult feelings can come from an array of live events such as depression, anxiety, loneliness, low self-esteem, unsupportive parents, being bullied, gender, sexual preference, loss, trauma, grief, abuse and I could really keep going for a while. The point is, life is hard and the only thing that softens our pain is feeling heard, understood, cared about, and not judged. One friend can or one kind stranger can and does change someone’s world.
Since every person on this planet has devastating or life changing situations come out of no where, the best place to accomplish this is online. Here are a few of the beginning plans on how we carry out this project:
-Positive, real/raw interactive instagram page. @werpossible is a “safe” place for everyone to be themselves, smile, laugh, learn, interact, be cared about, and to never EVER get bullied.
-DM (Instagram) on the weRpossible account or teen partner accounts, you can DM us if you are in need. Although we aren’t counselors, we are people who volunteer because not only do we care, we all have a traumatic story we have overcome.
-Connecting new friends, forums, and discussions while remaining feeling emotionally safe.
-Vidoes to ensure no matter how you’re feeling at home, you can find videos to watch of people who understand ensuring no one has to feel lonely.
-Speaking up and normalizing these feelings and making the fact known that it is NOT embarrassing or a topic to be laughed at.
-Contests and campaigns so while helping from home, you get a chance to win cool stuff or a little cash.
-Giving all the resources and information to teens and young adults internationally.
-Knowing your voice and everyone’s voice is heard.
-Making sure the community knows that over all, we are a group of people who really love you/each other and that will always remain the foundation making this project everlasting.
